Telemetry, tracking and command equipment keeps the spacecraft controllable. A radio carrying high-rate payload data is not automatically a safe-mode TT&C transponder, and tracking/ranging functions are not universal.

These are sourcing candidates, not a confirmed Starlink supply chain.

What remains unverified

  • No listed radio is established as the actual SpaceX TT&C supplier.
  • Current model availability, firmware support and environmental acceptance remain quotation items.
  • Some current portfolio pages publish little controlled technical data; older datasheets are identified rather than silently treated as latest revisions.

What to compare

  • Band, link direction and duplexing · MHz / GHz

    Match spacecraft uplink/downlink sub-bands and half/full-duplex behaviour to the actual ground network.

  • Safe-mode command path

    Check independent boot, acquisition, watchdog/reset, command authentication and recovery when the payload computer is unavailable.

  • Waveform and coding

    Specify modulation, framing, coding, synchronization and network protocol versions; a generic SDR requires implementation.

  • Sensitivity and RF output · dBm / BER / PER

    Compare sensitivity at the stated bit/symbol rate, coding and error criterion, and power at the required modulation.

  • Tracking and ranging

    Verify coherent turnaround, ranging formats and frequency stability only if the mission requires them.

  • Throughput · kbps / Mbps / kBd

    Keep uplink versus downlink, symbol versus bit rate and raw versus net rate separate.

  • Power and interfaces · W / V

    Check receiver-only versus transmit draw, bus-voltage range and data/control connectors.

  • Maturity and environment

    Compare exact flight configuration, mission life, radiation, thermal/vibration evidence and lifecycle status.

Selection & integration notes
  • Place high-rate payload downlinks in the payload chain unless they also provide the required command and tracking functions.
  • Frequency tuning range is not permission to operate or proof of compatibility with a ground network.
  • A full-duplex radio may still need an antenna, filtering and sufficient transmit-to-receive isolation.
  • General Dynamics explicitly marks its historical S-band TDRSS/DSN transponder and ConDR radio discontinued; neither is listed as a current supplier product here.
