E01Flight computer

Run flight software and coordinate the spacecraft.

Manufacturers & products

Onboard computers execute spacecraft command, control and fault management. Compare complete flight computers separately from processor boards, payload computers and bare processors that still require power, I/O, packaging and software integration.

These are sourcing candidates, not a confirmed Starlink supply chain.

What remains unverified

  • Xiphos Q8 OBC webpage sections give conflicting power figures; the August 2026 datasheet states 5 W nominal / 16.5 W peak. Obtain a configuration-specific signed specification.
  • ISISPACE iOBC memory configurations vary among historical brochures; use a current quotation rather than merging revisions.
  • Spacemanic Deep Thought webpage and revision 3.1 sheet give different height figures; envelope is omitted from the example.

Where it comes from

A company address is shown separately from a published factory location. Request the manufacturing site and lot traceability for the exact part when sourcing.

What to compare

  • Delivered assembly

Identify complete computer, single-board computer, system-on-module or integrated bus controller; list missing support hardware.

  • Processing capability · MHz; workload/s

Compare workload benchmarks, real-time behavior and available acceleration under the actual thermal/power limits.

  • Memory integrity · MB; GB

Separate volatile RAM, boot storage and payload storage; require usable capacity after ECC and redundancy.

  • Fault tolerance

Assess watchdogs, EDAC, memory scrubbing, latch-up protection, reset domains and redundant command paths.

  • Interfaces and throughput · Mbit/s; Gbit/s

Verify physical ports, protocol versions and sustained simultaneous I/O against the spacecraft architecture.

  • Software and support

Compare BSP, RTOS/Linux support, drivers, source access, licenses and long-term maintenance.

  • Power and thermal design · W; g; °C

Use workload-dependent consumption and complete enclosure mass; consider boot and peak transients.

  • Radiation and mission grade

Request part- and board-level test evidence and configuration control for the actual delivered grade.

Selection & integration notes
  • A payload Linux computer may complement a simpler safe-mode controller rather than replace all spacecraft-control functions.
  • Processor brand or radiation rating alone does not describe the reliability of a complete flight computer.
  • Onboard data storage is not necessarily a high-throughput payload recorder.
